  • British Council & London Book Fair UK Young Publishing Entrepreneur (UKYPE) 2008
    This award recognises the potential of an individual, aged between 25 and 35, working within a publishing house in any function (including owning one) to be a future leader of the sector in the UK and, indeed, internationally. Through character and drive this person will demonstrate entrepreneurship and the ability to promote publishing in the UK as well as a vision for the future of UK publishing. Nominated publishers will be contacted following this procedure to provide further information for the judging panel. The winner Nibbie and two runners-up will be invited to take part in a specially designed and tailored tour of Argentina's publishing industry. The tour (to take place later in the year) will provide a real insight into one of the most developed and fastest-growing Spanish-speaking publishing markets.   • decibel is an Arts Council England initiative to raise the profile of African, Asian and Caribbean artists. It has been working to effect change within the UK publishing industry since the 'In Full Colour' survey, commissioned with The Bookseller in 2004. Since then, decibel's literature strand has inaugurated a varied programme of activities, including three decibel Nibbies ('05,'06 and '07), graduate traineeships with leading publishers, and the decibel Penguin Prize for short stories. Last year decibel also joined forces with leading UK booksellers for a pilot promotion, Books For All, which directly targeted BME customers. This was the first time that major book retailers have focused on the BME market.
